In Artimino the passion for wine comes from the distant past, back to the Etruscans. The Medici family first sparked interest in quality wine, in particular with the edict of Cosimo I of 1716.
Since the 1980s the Tenuta di Artimino has been owned by the Olmo family: the third generation, now at the helm, has chosen to focus on sustainable and responsible agriculture, honoring this ancient history and centuries-old traditions.
70 hectares of splendid vineyards surround the Medici Villa La Ferdinanda (Unesco world heritage site), with noble vines such as Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, said to have been brought by Catherine de’ Medici. These are wines from a secluded, more authentic Tuscany, where the pace of life is still marked by the rhythms of nature and the countryside.
OUR HISTORY
From a passion for cycling to a commitment to the land
It was 1935 when Giuseppe Olmo – known by all as Gepin – went down in history by setting a new Hour Distance Record in international cycling. Olmo knew the value of hard work; he knew like every athlete that every goal is the result of sacrifice and tenacity. He came from a family of modest means and was a self-made man. The land was for him refuge and sustenance, beauty and responsibility.
By the time he purchased the Tenuta di Artimino estate in the late 1980s, he had become a successful entrepreneur. So, he decided to be the custodian of this unique place, to honor the legacy of the great Medici family and to restore the estate to its former glory. Our roots inspire us in our daily choices and guide us in our foresight towards the future.
